#49 What do you think about war?

Heraclitus said something astonishing 2,500 years ago: “War is the father of all things.” His statement has continued to make people wonder ever since. Is it really true?

Have you noticed how quickly your mind takes a side?

Israel attacks Gaza… and deep in your heart, you’re immediately approving or condemning Israel.

The US attacks Iran… and again, you feel yourself leaning, almost instantly.

Two of your friends argue… and before they finish, you’ve chosen who’s right in your mind.

It’s nearly impossible to stay neutral.

Your first thought takes a side. Almost every time.

Why?

Because of something ancient… and very human.

Your survival instinct.

Conflict signals danger.

And danger demands a decision.

So your mind does what it was designed to do… it simplifies, judges, and chooses.

Fast.

But here’s where it gets interesting.

If you step back… far enough to see the bigger picture… a different pattern begins to emerge.

Think of the Yin-Yang symbol.

Half black. Half white.

Good and evil.

Right and wrong.

Light and dark.

But look closer.

The light carries a small dot of darkness.

The dark carries a small dot of light.

As if to say…

Each side contains the seed of the other.

And over time… they change places.

Now here’s the part most people miss.

Because we’re so focused on survival… on choosing sides… we overlook what may be the most important truth of all:

In the fight between good and evil, positive and negative, something new emerges.

We’re too caught in the moment to see it.

We don’t naturally think in decades… or centuries.

But time passes anyway.

And time reveals that conflict is not just destruction.

It is also creation.

That is the deeper meaning of Yin and Yang.

More than 2,500 years ago, Heraclitus saw this clearly:

“All things come into existence through conflict of opposites.”

And even more boldly:

“War is the father of all things.”

Strong words.

Uncomfortable, even.

But look at how this plays out.

Of course, we will judge Putin as evil and Zelensky as good.

That feels obvious.

But then we look closer…

We see that Zelensky had quite a few opportunities to end the war… and rejected them.

And we look closer at Putin’s leadership… and we can’t ignore his amazing abilities.

Again, the same pattern.

Each side contains something of the other.

Yin and Yang… merging, shifting, evolving.

Now bring this to today.

We don’t know what will emerge from the conflict between US-Israel and Iran.

It may affect all of us.

It may trigger a severe global crisis.

And in the moment… we will blame one side or the other.

That is human.

But in the longer arc of time…

What will matter is not the side we chose.

What will matter is what emerges.

Because something always does.

And that “something new” is what shapes the evolution of humankind.

So the next time you feel yourself pulled to one side or another… notice it.

Then step back… just a little.

Because beyond the question of who is right or wrong…

There is a deeper, more powerful question:

What is being created here?

Answer that… and you begin to see what most people never do.
