A single wrong question can derail everything that comes after it.
Whether you are working in sales (we all do!), trying to improve a relationship, or scaling a business, the quality of your outcome is determined by the quality of the question you ask.
We have a favorite joke about this topic.
Two monks in a monastery were both craving a cigarette, but they were trying to stay on the right side of the rules. So, they went to ask the abbot for permission.
The first monk went in and asked, “Father Abbot, may I smoke while I read the Bible?”
The abbot frowned and said, “Absolutely not. That would be disrespectful.”
The next day, the second monk went in and asked, “Father Abbot, may I read the Bible while I smoke?”
The abbot smiled and replied, “Of course, my son. It is always good to read the Bible.”
Of course, this is just a joke, but it has some truth in it. The point is this:
Who sets the frame, rules the game.
The frame is set by the questions you ask.
Learn to ask good questions. Not for gimmicks (like in the joke above) but for the things that matter.
We’ll have more emails on how to ask good questions. Stay in touch.
Love and Wisdom,
Monica and Stefan
