#51 What Your “Birthday” Really Means
Your age isn't just a number. It's a cosmic symbol if you can see it.
A friend of ours just turned 41.
Happy birthday, Jack!
We don’t think about this much, but what that actually means is that he has traveled around the sun 41 times. Literally.
Not a metaphor. An astronomical fact.
There is no “object” more important in our lives than the sun. Yet 99.9% of people are not able to list 10 facts about it. Go ahead, try it 🙂
Modern life hides this truth. Heating systems, electricity, supermarkets. Because of technology, we no longer realize how important the sun is to our lives.
But the ancient Egyptians thought about the sun every day and every night.
To them, the absence of the sun meant death. Its return meant life.
Recently, Monica and I had a chance to feel what they meant.
We spent several nights in the desert, sleeping in tents. When the sun disappeared, the temperature plunged from about 20°C to 3°C in just a few hours.
The drop in temperature was shocking, impossible to ignore.
Lying there in the dark, you feel the sun’s absence with surprising clarity. It becomes obvious why ancient civilizations revered it so highly.
Of course, most of us will never move to the desert. We will continue enjoying the comforts of modern technology, while the sun quietly does its work in the background.
But here’s a thought we invite you to take with you.
Every birthday is not just a number.
It marks another full voyage around the sun.
A complete cosmic lap through space.
Your age is not an abstract number or just a biological clock that says how old and rusty you are. It is a cosmic symbol that makes you part of the universe. It is a record of how many times you have traveled around a star. Our star, the one that makes life possible on Earth.
And since we don’t know when your birthday is, let us say it now, in advance.
Birthday greetings, friend!
May you harvest a crop of gratitude and plant with enthusiasm for the next turn around the sun 🙏💫
Love and Wisdom,
Monica and Stefan
