#34 Why We Teach What We Most Need to Learn

As Seneca said: “By teaching, we learn.”

There’s a curious phenomenon that humbles every teacher and uplifts every student.

What we teach others what we need to learn ourselves.

We are not talking about school teachers here.

We are talking about all of us: spiritual seekers, parents, entrepreneurs, leaders.

The ones teaching conscious parenting are learning to parent more consciously themselves.

Those guiding others in mindfulness are also deepening their own practice.

And Monica and I—yes, we’re teaching the universal laws… because we’re learning them too.

This is not a flaw. It’s the genius of how growth works.

The more we teach, the more we’re taught.

The more we give, the more we receive.

Teaching is what facilitates the learning to go deeper.

You organize your thoughts.

You explain it clearly.

You face the gaps in what you don’t understand yet.

As Seneca said: “By teaching, we learn.”

So next time you feel called to teach something (an insight, a principle, a piece of wisdom) don’t doubt yourself. That’s your signal to grow.

And when you see someone teaching, remember: they’re learning too.

You’re helping them by being present, by listening, by walking the path with them.

This insight levels the playing field in the most beautiful way.

The teacher is the student.

And the student is the teacher.
